The cross which opens the pilgrimage be one of significance for the Diocesan Church in the historical- artistic sense, or because of the devotion of the people. (Rite of the Opening of the Jubilee Year in Various Churches, Preamble: #8- 9).
Therefore, it has been decided by the Archbishop that the image of the Santo Cristo del Perdon y Caridad, the crucifix that is well-known and loved by the Kapampangan faithful be the jubilee cross for the Archdiocese of San Fernando.
Tomorrow, as we open the jubilee year, the image of the Virgen de los Remedios, Patroness of the Archdiocese and of the Province, will accompany the pilgrimage procession.
Furthermore, since the document also suggests that “the cross will be placed near the altar in the sanctuary where it will remain for the entire Jubilee Year for the veneration of the faithful”, the Santo Cristo del Perdon y Caridad will remain in the Cathedral Church throughout the Jubilee Year.
